Storing cheese
How to keep your cheese fresh for longer
Soft cheese is a natural product that matures in your fridge even after you have bought it. We have prepared a few helpful tips for you so that your cheese stays fresh for as long as possible and you can enjoy its full flavor at the crucial moment.
How to store soft cheese correctly
Many people tend to store their specialty cheeses in airtight containers in the fridge precisely because of the sometimes intense smell. However, we advise against this, as the cheese must be able to breathe! The reason for this is that ripening is never complete and the full aroma can never fully develop without oxygen. Therefore, the basic rule is: if possible, always use the cheese paper from the counter as packaging and enjoy your delicacies in their full flavor at home. Ask the counter staff to provide you with additional cheese wrapping paper.
TIP: Don’t buy so much soft cheese that you have to store it for a long time! It is better to buy small pieces (several times a week) directly from the counter and use them up quickly.
What else you should bear in mind
If you want to enjoy your delicacies for longer, it is best to store them in a cool, dry place. This way, the natural maturing process is not disturbed and the full aroma is retained for a long time. If condensation does form on the surface, simply dab it off, wrap the piece in fresh cheese paper and there’s nothing standing in the way of your soft cheese experience.
